Improving Spelling With Games

Expert Article By: Steve Hall

You got it! You can do just about any type of learning for a child or an individual learning a second language through the use of various computer games. You are sure to find something that will fit with their needs. You are also able to find a game that will keep them interested. Let's take spelling as an example.

Many kids struggle each and every year at school with that dreaded Friday spelling test. It doesn't get any easier because chances are good that the words just keep getting harder. For many parents, spelling is often a challenge to teach as well. The English language is nothing simple. But, what if you could teach them through the use of a PC game? That would be excellent, wouldn't it?

Think about this. The next time your child comes home with that awful list of twenty words they just have to know, you can easily say to them, "Why not go play a game on the computer." Yes, you can do this!

There are a number of games that are just perfect for teaching children the art of spelling. For example, you might want to try a word puzzle game like Beesly's Buzzwords. Or, if Spiderman happens to be your child's favorite character, you have games like Spider-Man 2: Web of Words. In this game, you child can advance through the levels by correctly spelling words. Its fun, rewarding, and most of all, it will help to improve their spelling capabilities.

The spelling games are not boring, dull, and difficult. To the opposite, these games will hold your child's attention so that they can get the knowledge they need. That is what makes these games different. If you are thinking back to your school days and those boring computer programs you were allowed to play and wondering how your technology loving child is going to play with something like that, don't worry. These games are much different. They are made to stimulate your child's knowledge without even allowing them to realize that they are. To them, they are simply playing a Spider Man game.

The value of these games is huge. In fact, there are more than just spelling games, as we will see down the line. They are great ways to feed your child the knowledge that they need without boring them. When it is fun, it will get played more often. The more that it gets played, the more they can learn from it.

So, then, what is the bottom line? You can easily allow your child to play some computer games but of course, you still need to monitor their usage. And, yes, you may have to practice those specific spelling words each week, but it may just get easier as time goes on. Here's a thought. Replace their favorite computer game with one of these for a week. They still get computer time and they still get to play a fun game. But, you get the satisfaction of knowing that they are playing an educational game as well. All in all, we think these games may be a great way to boost confidence and knowledge. Consider them for any age of child. You'll be happy that you did.

Open Question: Which one is hotter? Aries, Libra or Scorpio?

I don't know who to pick, so who would you pick out of these 3 guys? The Scorpio and the Aries seem to have mutual feelings for me, the Libra, I'm not so sure of. They are all the same age; 15. Aries: Tall and stocky. Very silly and asks stupid question, but very nice, loud, outgoing, popular, social and friendly. Pays EVERYTHING for you, including stuff you like at the shops and your bus/train fare. Very charismatic and makes people laugh. Allows you to talk and hang out with other guys. Very comforting and supportive. Always there for you. Has slanted, small eyes, thick eyes brows, slanted eyes, funny and approachable face and a weird hairstyle (shaved except for the middle). He has good results at school. However, he is very dirty and watches porn and talks to you about wanking (ew). He aspires to be a doctor. Libra: Very short, feminine, innocent and still has a kiddy voice (Kya <3!). Very shy and modest but super friendly and supportive. Talks to you about anything, even stuff he hates. Has, green, large doe-like eyes, innocent smile, small lips, tiny nose and lots of freckles along with brown, short hair. Lets you talk to anyone you wnat and does not care less. Has average school results and wants to be an animal-loving vet. Scorpio: Very tall, dark, strikingly handsome and has a low husky voice. He never talks to other girls. Has cupid's bow (lips that look a little like a frown), heavy eyebrows, perfect nose, fair skin, dark hair gelled into a sporty hair-style and has the most amazing, hypnotic, attractive and intimidating eyes that stare deeply into your soul often (Dark eyes, dilated pupils, very long eyelashes, perfect eyelids). Looks at you a lot. Is very serious, quiet, secretive and very possessive of you (Gets angry when you talk to other boys). Is the smartest guy in year 11 and plans to be an engineer. Haha! Yes, I have 3 guys to pick from. I ditched the Aries on Friday, and now it is the Scorpio or Libra. I think I'll pick Libra, and ditch Scorpio soon. I am unsure about the Libra's feelings.

Open Question: Desperate for someone to listen :(?

My cat, Emily, died this morning at 15-years-old. For the passed year or so we noticed she was losing weight, but otherwise seemed healthy. She started drinking a lot of water, and started urinating more. The last couple of months she stopped using the litter box that has been in the same spot for 15 years and started going on the tile. I ended up confining her to our small bathroom at night so that I wouldn't have to go through the house and attempt to find all of the spots she peed on. Anyway, I wasn't able to take her to the vet because I simply couldn't afford it (my husband is the only one who works and I had her since I was 7 years old. My dad was the one who paid for vet visits if needed until I left on my own and took her. Please, I don't need to hear how I shouldn't have a pet if I can't afford to take it to the vet, I don't need the lecture.) I figured she had kidney disease because all of her symptoms matched what I read online. She still had an appetite and was still able to make her way around the house so I left it alone. Then the passed week she declined rapidly, losing even more weight and just laid around. She didn't even want to eat or drink so I had to assist her. She hadn't pooped in 3 days, and she couldn't get up to go pee on her puppy pads anymore so I let her relax on the couch with a puppy pad under her. We contemplated on taking her to the local humane society to have her humanely euthanized, but my brother said he thought it would be best if she died naturally because she was born in my house, and she should die here as well....Yesterday she didn't move AT ALL, but mewed if I was away from her. As soon as I'd sit next to her and stroke her, she would quiet down. I took that as a sign that she wanted to be with me, so when I went to bed I put a puppy pad under her and had her sleep next to me. This morning I woke up and found her making weird sounds and looked like she was having a seizure. After a fit she would gasp for air. I was in tears as I lifted her body and just held her while she took her last breaths. She passed around 8:45 AM this morning. We buried her in my backyard wrapped in my daughter's baby blanket that I had her covered in the passed two days because her paws were so cold. My daughter gave her a small stuffed animal to be buried with so "she wouldn't be alone" as my daughter put it. After we buried her, I saw a white dove fly over my house. I took it as a sign that my sweet Emily is ok, and that I shouldn't mourn her. but I am so devastated. I keep thinking about the times she jumped on my lap asking for love and I just pushed her away because I was busy. I know she knew she was well loved, but I just hope her death wasn't painful. My brother and husband weren't exactly the nicest people to her either, because the last few months they started rejecting her since she was skin and bones and smelled kind of bad. But I loved her so much. I have her collar and tag on my key chain. I just need to know it's normal to feel this way and that someone else has been through this. I just miss my girl so much. Thanks. For Mr. Percy. LIKE I SAID: I have had her since I was 7. If I didn't take her after I turned 18 my dad would've taken her to the shelter. I wasn't about to let that happen., i work with a lot of rescues and I know what happens in the shelters. I tried several times to find her a new home because I feared this day, and felt bad that I couldn't afford her vet care. however, it's really hard to find a home for a senior cat. Everybody these days wants kittens. Thanks for putting salt in my wounds, though. Mr. Percy: I actually found my Lola (the kitty who was missing) 3 MONTHS after she went missing. She went missing on my birthday. We thought she died outside because she was strictly an indoor cat but my husband saw her in our yard one night before he left for work. We set a humane trap and caught her 3 days later in front of my neighbor's house. It was wonderful! We have since then gotten her spayed after taking some time to save up the money. She doesn't have a UTI like i had thought she did. It's funny how a VET TECH has more compassion and doesn't take notice to the fact that I don't have the money to always take my cats to the vet. I love my cats, and I know I do. That is all that matters. Thank you all for your kind words. i will take this time to celebrate her life, rather than mourn her death. Rest in paradise my sweet emily xx

Open Question: Careers: Can Someone Help?

Well, im a soon-to-be senior in High School on vacation, and I'm sitting here thinking of what I want to go to college for. I've signed up for duel-credit courses for next semester so, that is taking care of my general education requirements (math, english, stuff like that) but as for the rest....well, yea, obviously I don't know. But I do have a general idea; I want to be outside as much as I can I *love* Nature and want to help preserve it if I can I help run the recycling program at my school I Absolutely love animals, but people get on my nerves sometimes I own pets and would do anything for them I don't want a desk job I want to help.....someone or something.....that I don't know Love of Job > Money from Job I was looking into Wildlife Ecologist or Wildlife/Zoological Vet but If someone could recommend me something or give me a really good and/or detailed description of at least one of those 2 jobs, I would really appreciate it. And if its relevant, I live in Kentucky and I plan on going to EKU or UK. I also plan on minoring in education, that I know. I know I said people get on my nerves, but I mostly meant I don't want to be a tour guide. I also plan on minoring in education, that I know. Open Question: My boyfriend always wants to have sex, how do you know if hes using me for sex or if he loves me?

We been together for over 8 months, and whenever me and him hang out, he wants to have sex. Literally everywhere we go, he wants to have sex. When I don't wanna do it with him, he gets all butt hurt and pissed off at me. He says sex fixes all problems. He always brings up sex in a conversation when we're either arguing or talking romantically. It gets super annoying. Whenever I'm trying to be all romantic, he starts to get all grabby. I like doing it with him, its just that we do it too much. And when I wanna use a condom so I don't get pregnant, he kept saying he wanted to take the condom off and I got hella pissed that I almost smacked him LOL. I don't know if he cares about me or sex? And I confronted him about this before and he said that if he was using me for sex, he would have left me already and he would have had sex with other girls. But ehh, I don't really know.. The good things he does for me is that he gives me a bunch of handwritten letters, flowers, stuffed animals. He kisses me all the time. He hangs out with me all the time when it comes to school, and he chooses me over his friends. He texts me all the time and never wants to say good bye. He cried a billion times for me expessially when we broke up and when I was about to break up with him. Hes amazing and all, but he needs to control his dick. Please help me out?

Open Question: What should I do for show and tell?

I'm in 6th grade, and in Language Arts we're doing a 2-3 minute Show-and-Tell presentation to get used to presenting in front of a group of people. The thing is, I don't know what to do!!! The show and tell object should be something special to you or something, but nothing really comes to mind when I try to think of something special. He said it can be anything really, as long as it has a story behind it that we can tell. I know I'm overthinking this, but still. Any ideas? (Like, 'a teddy bear' or something?) PS I don't have any special stuffed animals (not anymore at least) nor do I have any pictures of them.
